Complete race schedule, championship results and odds as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen restart fierce rivalry

The battle for the Formula 1 world title is underway.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the opening Bahrain Grand Prix of the season after world champion Max Verstappen retired with just three laps to go and Lewis Hamilton took a surprise podium.

But Verstappen kicked off his season with a victory at the Saudi Grand Prix, beating Leclerc.

There are 22 races scheduled for the 2022 season with Canada, Japan and Australia included on the tour.

The grid will now head to Melbourne for the Australian GP this weekend.

The Russian Grand Prix was scheduled to take place on September 25, but was canceled after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Formula 1 2022: What has been said?

After the Saudi race, Verstappen said: “It was a very hard race but a good race. We fought a lot and we had to play a long game.

“It wasn’t easy, we were playing smart tricks on the last corner, but we managed to get ahead. We’re glad we’ve finally started the season.

Leclerc added: “Today is not enough, but I really liked that race.

“It’s a tough but fair race. And every race should be like this. Today I wanted to win. Max did a great job.

“I was pushing like few times before, to the absolute limit, but of course there is respect. However, I am disappointed.”
