What you need to know for the NBA blackboard tonight

by Jim McCormick and Kyle Soppe

Depth of big apple: The Knicks have not had a traditional top scorer for much of the season, which has allowed Immanuel Quickley (80% available) and Alec Burks (65%) to play major roles. Quickley is just a game removed from his first triple-double run. Meanwhile, Burks is an elite rebounder and has averaged 21.5 points in his last two games. Tonight’s clash with the porous Washington defense invites not only New York’s backcourt, but also rookie center Jericho Sims (99%), who has just made a double-double and three blocks against Brooklyn. For those who need a bit of goal-scoring pop, Obi Toppin (91%) has averaged 19.7 points over his last three outings.

Tank objectives: The Lakers face a Thunder team tonight with the intention of improving their lottery odds. Oklahoma City have eight players left tonight, leaving Zavier Simpson (99%) in charge of the attack. The unselected Simpson has only played two games in his NBA career and has averaged 41 minutes and eight assists in two starts in the Thunder lottery. If he is active, the actions of second-year striker Aleksej Pokusevski (89%) also make sense given his ability to flirt with triple-double results. Striker Jaylen Hoard (95%) has added 47 points and 26 rebounds in his last two appearances. For the Lakers, Talen Horton-Tucker (94%) and Malik Monk (70% available) have viable paths up to 20 points each, while Austin Reaves (99%) is a good target to beat the scoring points.

The Alps: Houston’s Alperen Sengun (87% available) also has a pretty unique game. He has scored 14 points in each of his last two games and has averaged 13 boards and 4.5 assists during that stretch. Toronto presents a real challenge given his length and effective speed on defense, but Sengun’s ability to get off the post should be key tonight. With Christian Wood discarded, Sengun is not only an ideal transmission option and a DFS factor, but also a fun target for assist and bounce accessories.

Lee-ave It to Saben: Saben Lee has been doing it later and his aggressive style of play is perfect for fantasy. During his last five games, his numbers for every 36 minutes look like anything but a DFS point game: 15 points (11.8 shots) and 9.2 assists. Your billing attendance count of 28 to 3 during this stretch implies that there is good decision making underlying your profile. With the Bucks after a hard-fought victory over the Bucks last night, don’t be surprised if Lee pays his very cheap price early!

Weekend Exemptions: As the playoffs approach, identifying productive players to connect with and playing can provide an advantage. Drew Eubanks (63% available), for example, is still making big lines for Portland and should make his team in a matter of minutes against the Mavericks tonight. If you need a few extra games played over the weekend, adding Damian Jones of Sacramento (90% available) or Davion Mitchell (57%) will allow you to get two games. The Kings play the Clippers on Saturday and the Suns on Sunday. The same goes for the fantasy values of all the teams that play on Saturday, as Sunday’s final sees the entire league in action.

Game of the Night

Atlanta Hawks to Miami Heat
20:00 ET, FTX Arena, Miami, FL

Line: Heat (-2)
Moneyline: Heat (-130), Hawks (+110)
Total: 229 points
Expected total BPI: 221 points
BPI Win%: Heat (66.7%)

Discarded key players: cap

questionable: Lou Williams, Gabe Vincent, Markieff Morris, Caleb Martin

Notable: The Hawks have covered six of their past seven as they finish the regular season on a high note.

Best bet: Brings Young with less than 27.5 points. Young has been hot lately, scoring 30 points or more in four of his last five games, but they have all faced struggling defenses. On the contrary, it is Young who fights the heat. This season he has only averaged 22.3 PPG with 39.7% FG in three games against the Heat, after his two games against the Heat last season in which he scored 16.5 PPG with a 30, 8 FG%. They’re one of the few teams that just got Young’s back. – André Snellings

Breaking the rest of the board

Milwaukee Bucks at the Detroit Pistons
19:00 ET, Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, MI

Line: dollars (-6)
Moneyline: Bucks (-270), Pistons (+220)
Total: 227 points
Expected total BPI: 227.5 points
BPI Win%: Bucks (63.3%)

Discarded key players: Marvin Bagley III

questionable: Cory Joseph

Notable: After watching five of six games below, the Detroit Consecutive Games have surpassed the total and get a Milwaukee team that came out of a demanding game last night against Boston.

Fantasy Streamer: Isaiah Stewart. With Marvin Bagley III out, Stewart (36% available) becomes the big main man of the Pistons. He had 19 points, 14 rebounds, one assist and a block on Wednesday against the Mavericks. Stewart could present a similar line against the Bucks on Friday. – Eric Moody

Fantasy Streamer: Killian Hayes. Hayes (57% available) could see significant minutes, with Cory Joseph questionable. Hayes has averaged 14 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 4.4 APG and 3.0 SPG over the last five games. – Changing mood

New York Knicks and Washington Wizards
19:00 ET, Capital One Arena, Washington DC

Line: Mags (-1)
Moneyline: Mags (-115), Knicks (-105)
Total: 221.5 points
Expected total BPI: 224.5 points
BPI Win%: Mags (53%)

Discarded key players: Mitchell Robinson, Nerlens Noel, Kyle Kuzma

Notable: Even after getting the big lead against Brooklyn on Wednesday night, the Knicks couldn’t cover and saw the lower impact … they’re 1-3 ATS in their last four and have collected fewer tickets in five of his last six.

Fantasy Streamer: Obi Toppin. Toppin is firmly on the broadcast radar with Mitchell Robinson out. It has been outstanding and has averaged 20 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 3.3 APG and 1.3 BPG over the last three games. Toppin is able to get many minutes and use and is giving. – Changing mood

Cleveland Cavaliers to the Brooklyn Nets
19:30 ET, Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York

Line: Networks (-7)
Moneyline: Nets (-300), Knights (+240)
Total: 228.5 points
Expected total BPI: 225 points
BPI Win%: Net (68.9%)

Discarded key players: Goran Dragic

questionable: Evan Mobley

Notable: Perception is not always the reality. Four consecutive Net games (and six of the last seven) have gone below the total even though this is talked about as a historic offense … the books give them a lot of scoring credit.

Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors
19:30 ET, Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, ON, CA.

Line: Predators (-14.5)
Moneyline: Raptors (-1400), rockets (+800)
Total: 228.5 points
Expected total BPI: 226 points
BPI Win%: Predators (83.2%)

Discarded key players: OG Anunoby

Notable: The Rockets are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games and get a Raptors team looking to the playoffs (load management potential, which we saw last night).

Charlotte Hornets to the Chicago Bulls
20:00 ET, United Center, Chicago, IL

Line: Bulls (-2)
Moneyline: Bulls (-135), Hornets (+115)
Total: 228 points
Expected total BPI: 228.5 points
BPI Win%: Bulls (50.5%)

Discarded key players: cap

questionable: Alex Caruso

Notable: The faded Bulls have been unable to cover consecutive home games.

Portland Trail Blazers to the Dallas Mavericks
20:30 ET, American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX

Line: Mavericks (-18)
Moneyline: Mavericks (-2400), Blazers (+1100)
Total: 221.5 points

questionable: Maxi Kleber

Notable: The Mavericks have seen five games in a row in total and have covered four of those contests.

Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz
9:30 p.m. ET, Living Smart Home Arena, Salt Lake City, UT

Line: Jazz (-3)
Moneyline: Jazz (-150), Sols (+130)
Total: 226 points
Expected total BPI: 215 points
BPI Win%: Jazz (50.1%)

Discarded key players: cap

Notable: The Jazz have seen four of their last five games surpass the total after seeing five out of six below the Vegas projection.

Oklahoma City Thunder to Los Angeles Lakers
22:30 ET, Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, CA.

Line: Lakers (-8)
Moneyline: Lakers (-360), Thunder (+285)
Total: 227.5 points
Expected total BPI: 228 points
BPI Win%: Lakers (61.7%)

Discarded key players: LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook

Notable: The Thunder have 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games.

Fantasy Streamer: Malik Monk. LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook have been ruled out against the Thunder. Monk (68% available) should be successful against an Oklahoma City team that ranks 29th in points allowed for 100 possessions. He has averaged 18 PPG, 4.6 APG and 3.4 RPGs in his last eight games. – Changing mood

Fantasy Streamer: Zavier Simpson. Simpson (99.8% available) is a great streamer for those who play in deeper formats. With the Thunder facing several injuries, it could surprise many fantasy coaches against the Lakers, who are ranked 24th in points allowed per 100 possessions. – Changing mood
